Abstract
The present article has been conducted with the aim of providing a sociological and demographic analysis of the factors influencing the delay in the age of marriage among young people in the city of Kashan. The present study is a cross-sectional survey conducted in the autumn of 2024. The statistical population of the study consists of never-married women aged 24–44 and men aged 28–49 in the city of Kashan. The sample size was estimated to be 373 people using Cochran’s formula. The results of the multivariate analysis showed that the variables inclination toward single living, premarital relationships, interactions and communications on social networks, marriage expenses, trust in the opposite sex, individualism, employment status, age, and years of education were, respectively, the strongest predictors of delayed age at marriage. A noteworthy point is the influence of individualism, premarital relationships, trust in the opposite sex, interactions and communications on social networks, and marriage expenses on the inclination toward single living, as well as the mediating role of the inclination toward single living in transmitting the effects of these five variables on the delay in the age at marriage. Finally, through path analysis and by examining the direct and indirect effects of the variables, it was determined that premarital relationships, individualism, interactions and communications on social networks, inclination toward single living, marriage expenses, trust in the opposite sex, employment status, age, and years of education were, respectively, the strongest predictors of delayed age at marriage.
