In this article the relationship between cultural policies and cinema in Iran is studied through a comparison between cultural-cinematic policies of two different Iranian states during years 1377 and 1389 and their effects on selecting the representative of Iranian cinema to the academy of Oskar. The theoretical framework of the study is based on the field of sociology of cinema, concentrating on Tony Bennett's theory relating to the effect of politics and state on form and content of cultural products. The methodology of the article is documentary and the technic used is qualitative content analysis. The analysis of cultural policies of cinema, as an issue in the field of sociology of cinema, shows that although form and content of movies are both influenced by social conditions, to which cultural policy is a part, form has been a more important criteria for the selection of movies to present in the academy of Oskar. In other words, there is a general policy in Iran that supports the idea of entering the competition of Oskar each year in order to show that Iranian cinema is so mature that is able to compete with the cinema of other countries. This policy leads to use the form and the aesthetic quality of movies as dominant criteria for the selection. Therefore, although based on each period's policies and state it is expected that selected movies produce some special contents, the importance of form has led to a selection of movies that are not directly appropriate with their co-existing domestic policies. Considering this interesting finding, it can be theoretically concluded that the effect of cultural policies on cinema is more on the content while the form of cinema is to a great extent free from the bounds of cultural policies.

This paper addresses the representations of the Muslim world, especially Iran, in Western media. These representations are traced back in orientalist discourse, one through which ‘knowledge’ is produced about the East which empowers the West to justify and maintain its dominance over its Eastern Other. The writers first discuss the nature and functions of representation and proceed to examine some of the aspects and strategies of the Western media approach to the Muslim world in general and Iran in particular. The aim is to shed some light on the discursive functions and formations involved here. The need to address such pressing issues in order to create a more balanced and rational atmosphere necessary for a fruitful dialogue between nations and cultures is emphasized.

Information technology and its consequent virtual space are opening up a new sphere in psychological, sociological and cultural studies associated with the mutual effect of technology, culture and human beings in general, and the interaction of cyberspace and culture, identity and human relationships. Recent studies in this field should be examined at least to realize whether the psychological and social outcomes and the pathology of virtual spaces are the result of the overflow of problems and issues of society and the real space into virtual space, and to decide if the challenges and the social problems in question are due to the development and growth of electronic media and virtual space? While describing and explaining the effect of culture, society and their consequent traditions on virtual spaces, relationships and their content, and examining the effect of virtual space on culture, social actions, identity, attitudes and individual and collective behavior, the present article stresses that considering the short history and the little experience of the interaction between human and information technology and virtual space, it seems too soon to speak decisively about the outcomes of information technology and virtual spaces. Therefore, two principles are suggested to be established in cultural and social research on cyberspace. First, in the study of virtual space, priorities should be identified correctly and one should not merely focus on the problems resulting from information and communication technology instead of dealing with fundamental issues. Second, both in the theoretical and the methodological aspects of studies on virtual space, in different social and cultural spheres, one cannot rely merely on traditional theories and method, and new methods, in terms of theory, methodology and tools, should be applied.

The statistical population included 42426 students all of them studying in Yazd’s universities. Kerjcie and Morgan (1970) table was used to determine the sample size and regarding the dispersion of statistical population stratified random sampling was used and 380 students were selected as the study sample. In this study the independent variable was degree of using mobile phone and the dependent variable, social relationships, was divided into three subscales of the relationship with family, friends, and the organization of the university. Using Campbell model (2005) the above mentioned subscales were extracted and examined. Based on Kim and Mitomu’s (2002 and 2006) model the use of mobile phone was also examined in relation to the depth and width of students’ social relationships. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between using mobile phone and the students’ relationships with theirfamily and friends and their relationships within the university. The results also showed that using mobile phone causes the increased depth of social relationships but no correlation with the width of social relationships was observed.

Participants in this study include 21 students (male and female) living in dormitories of Shiraz University. Researches use qualitative approach of grounded theory. Technique of data collection has been in-depth interviews. Data have been analyzed with qualitative software called NVIVO. Analyze the data and paradigmatic model shows that the grounded condition for participants, including “spatial texture” of accommodation based on a subset of locality plus time coordination, participant’s age necessitation, collective identity. Meanwhile, global market trends and fashionism influence as interfering conditions. Participants placed in these conditions, take developed and alternative musical factor and increased mental absenteeism quotient. As a result of taking this strategy, the consequences of idio-sensuation (image of the other) [alter image]self-reincarnation and psychology projection will be introduced. Idio-sensuation naturally implies that the participant initiate music consumption in such a manner as to bring in their own personal mental images as contrasted with other’s which in itself possess multifarious dimensions having been in a state of fluctuation in between two diverse pole of psychological projection and self-reincarnation.

Computer games are exciting entertainments for teens that are attractive due to their charm and enjoyment. Today, with the expansion of computer games, we witness various complications. Social science experts emphasize the role of these games in isolating, confusing, and reducing social interaction among adolescents as a result of computer game addiction. In this study, the role of computer games was studied with a focus on adolescent addiction to these games in their isolation. The study used a survey design and questionnaires and interviews were used to collect data on the two variables of computer addiction and soliloquy in adolescents. The reliability of the research instrument was confirmed using Cronbach's alpha test. The population of this study was all male students of guidance schools in Kashan in 2018. Using Cochran sampling formula, 320 individuals were randomly selected and surveyed. The research findings showed high correlation between the two variables of computer addiction and student isolation. Pearson test results were r = 0.452, the reliability of the relationship between the two high variables was statistically significant in the 99% confidence level. The type of relationship is positive indicating that with the increase in the rate of addiction to computer games, we are witnessing an increase in the social isolation of students.

Like any other community, the university has its own cultural set up. But unfortunately, the culture, which is currently dominating the Iranian higher education institutions, does not meet the expectations of a scientific community. The present study, based on views and experiences of academics as well as using an interpretive approach, tries to answer the main research question as why and how such a disorder prevails in academic culture. In this qualitative study, the Grounded Theory has been applied as research methods. The selection of participants, including faculty members from higher education institutions, was based on theoretical sampling. It continued until achieving a saturation point. Data collection was done through semi-structured interviews, including 17 individual and 4 group interviews. Data were categorized via three-stage coding (open, axial and selective) and classified into 1900 codes, 458 concepts, 101 subcategories and 32 main categories. Further, the data analysis was carried out based on the concept of context, analytical tool paradigm (conditions, action-interaction and consequences) and conditional-consequential analytical strategy matrix. Based on the acquired results "non-adherence to academic norms" was selected as a central phenomenon, and the final model was based on causal conditions and contextual factors at micro and macro levels, academic interaction including resistance, silence and abuse as well as the consequences including individual, organizational and national ones. The final outcome indicates the strengthening and reproduction of the central phenomenon in case of lack of university actions to help improve the situation.

The economic actors` behavior could not be understood in isolation, without considering the influence of cultural factors. Although there has been less attention paid to the role of culture in economic activism, it is of strategic importance, especially among the youth because culture can affect their behavior valuation, behavior purpose, and behavior standard. Therefore, the purpose of the current study is to investigate the cultural perception of money among the young generation. Analysis is based on a subtype of qualitative method: content analysis of the interviews. The study population includes young economic activists aged between 18 and 32 years. The targeted sampling is based on criteria and non-homogeneous method, reaching the theoretical saturation point with 12 subjects. Data are collected using semi-structured interviews. The credibility of the collected data is confirmed by credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability indexes, as well as by in depth description, reference to interviewees, and two encoders. The findings show that money is culturally perceived as an end, an indicator of social conflict, an alternative to happiness, and a benchmark for social credibility among the young generation; on the other hand, these perceptions could be attributed to priority of money function over money usage, educational conflict, the dominance of thrift, overview of values and money-based identity, will power, the social trap of money, and the ambiguity within monetary authorities. In general, findings show that ambiguity and contradiction in young people's understanding has caused the perception of money to be changed compared to the past, enriching its function.

Regarding representational function of media, the current dissertation intends to examine the changes in the representation of the image of the Iraqis in the Sacred Defense Cinema. Iraqies have been pictured as the "Others" during last three decades. Due to the importance and role of sacred defense and its cinematic representations of "Self" and "Other" and thereby its contribution in the process of reconstruction of Iranian national identity this research is aimed at studying represented images of Iraqies and its changes during last three decades. To reach this objective I first examined the concept and theories of representation as stated by Richard Dyer and Stuart Hall. Then to complement Hall’s theories I referred to other thinkers in the field of identity theory, ‘self’ and ‘the other’ as stated. In the chapter on methodology I’ve benefited from a combination of the patterns presented by Kate Selbi, Ran Kallory and Rolan Bart to analyze the texts. The findings of this thesis demonstrates that in order to depict the Iraqis in the sixties verbal codes were primarily used whereas in the seventies and the eighties social and technical codes were most used respectively. In the first decade Iraqis were portrayed as those people who are imagined to be cruel, inhuman, in which the emphasis was laid on the impact of the Iraqi’s invasion. In the second decade we see Iraqi’s depicted as dumb and fat people having thick moustaches and rough voices and in the third we see this portrayal to be transformed where Iraqi’s are shown to be our Muslim brothers who have been forced to fight in the war. Having observed, examined and analyzed the films, we found out that when facing ‘the other’, i.e. the Iraqis, the metaphor of the boundary or border was used. This border is seen between ‘self’ and ‘the other’, i.e. the Iranians and the Iraqis in all the chosen movies on the Sacred Defense. In the first decade there was an objective and real boundary whereas in the second we saw a transformation stage, where boundaries between ‘self’ and ‘the other’ were loose and shaking and finally over the third decade borders got utterly symbolic.

The largest religious community of Muslims is formed every year on the occasion of the 40th Day of Ashura by walking to Karbala and during the Arbaeen procession. This pilgrimage walk, while being a wonderful manifestation of religious experience, is a diverse field of Charity services to pilgrims, as well as a clear example of "religious charity". Religious experience is usually formed during religious practices and rituals, including during pilgrimage. But this study begins specifically with the important question of whether the experience of participation and involvement in religious charity can have the characteristics of a religious experience? To answer this question, the qualitative research method has been used using interview and participatory observation techniques by recording data such as photos, videos and field notes. Iranian pilgrims as well as processions, procession holders and members of Iranian and Iraqi processions were the observation unit and the population studied in this study. The findings showed that the experience of participating in religious charitable services, as well as the use of these services in the Arbaeen walk, can be a ground for the emergence and characteristics of religious experience. By extending the results to other situations of religious practice in which religious Charity deeds are possible, it has been argued that the possibility of defining religious charity as one of the contexts of religious experience in the Arbaeen walk can be a positive answer to the possibility of this kind of definition of Religious experience should be in all situations of religious experience - in addition to pilgrimage and Arbaeen.

For this end, by exploring the symbols of national identity in theoretical discussions, and literature review some components of national identity were defined and the structure of content analysis was prepared and then based on this structure, the amount and type of attention to the national identity symbols is evaluated. The results of comparison among the components of national identity symbols in Jamalzadeh's stories showed the largest frequency belongs to "language" and after that, geology, history, literature; celebrities and culture are the most frequent components. Moreover, contemplation in Jamalzadeh's works revealed that he apparently has focused on the visible and materialistic structure of identity more than the epistemic structure. In general, qualitative analysis of Jamalzadeh's stories has shown that he allocates more attention to component of national identity in all of their works; his works depend on context and has an Iranian construction. Nonetheless, we can say he didn't live in Iran but, in their stories he lived with an Iranian culture and Iranian people.

This article is to represent the linguistic indicators of gender in, Kalidar, the longest Persian novel. In this work of art, which is not so far from an anthropological report, women have an important and complicated place. Despite of a fundamental role they play in different aspects of daily life, Kalidar women are humiliated under literary gender clichés. The novel is full of proverbs and ironies which have been commonplace in vulgar Persian language for ridiculing and despising femininity. Our main question is: what is the place of women in Kalider from the point of view of a moderate feminism? And our hypothesis is that there is a paradoxical position for women in this novel. On one hand, they are represented as a source of life for men and for all of the family and thereby for the whole community, in some extent, because of the very particular life style of nomadic people, and on the other hand, they have a sense of insult and contempt, due to the general treatment whit women in almost every pre modern community. It means that those clichés have not been deducted from a low role of women in real life, but are constructed by a sexist culture.

Sunni-dominated areas in Kermanshah have become the base of various Islamic discourses, including Salafism. Considering the presence, activism and expansion of Salafism in these areas, the present study aims to analyze the lifestyle of Salafists through narrative analysis method. It was found that the leisure experiences of these people are limited but purposeful and health-oriented, and they usually turn to the virtual space for the promotional reason. While observing simplicity and skepticism towards new foods, jurisprudence-based food abstinence and hospitality are the coordinates of Salafists' style, and their spending priority is focused on basic needs. In terms of clothing and makeup, while avoiding conspicuous consumption, they believe in the superiority of trimness over makeup, traditional clothing, biological and functional consumption. In body management, along with modern medicine and physical fitness, they emphasize conditional cosmetic surgery while prohibiting sterilization and avoiding abortion. In arranging their houses, they usually avoid luxury but pay special attention to functional aspects and cultural goods. In cultural consumption, they emphasize not to identify with Iranian television channels, have the dual acknowledgment of good and evil in the use of cultural means, the use of the Internet to establish religious identity, and targeted filtering. While avoiding the consumption of movies, cinema and music, they welcome multilingualism. According to the field data, the lifestyle of the studied Salafists has the nature of "jihadi", "return to tradition" and "resistance".

For sampling, 50 undergraduate students at Isfahan University were selected based on the stratified random sampling method. For assessing the rate of SMS received and the factors contributing to this rate, a researcher-made questionnaire was employed. Descriptive statistics and stepwise regression were used for data analysis. The findings of stepwise regression indicated that economic status can significantly predict the rate of the SMS received from the same sex friends among college students (p=O.OO); however, adding gender, being native or non-native, and the duration of using SMS did not add to the significant value in predicting the power of the rate of the SMS received from same-sex friends. The results of stepwise regression also showed that gender can significantly predict the rate of SMS received from opposite-sex friends among college students (p=O.OO); but adding each one of economy status, being native or non-native, and the duration of using SMS variables could not increase significantly the predicting power of the rate of the SMS received from opposite-sex friends.

Self' and "other" are among the concepts that their relationship has been Some contemporary scholars conclude that the relation between. Questioned the two should finished by the necessity of another hearing and dialogue with the other And emphasize that this important point has not received much attention in the Western philosophy. For several reasons, there is little attention to listening and dialogue with others. In this article we will examine just one of these reasons: un-cultural definition of the other make interaction between us and the other impossible. As an example, we will remind some medieval Christian priests, Richard Burton and de Gobineau who differentiate themselves based on the curse of God, weather and race; components which empathize on none-cultural and involuntary differences. Un-cultural definition of the other, make the relation between self and other on "I - it" ratio. Biruni as an example of a cultural perspective to the other, with a definition of the other based on language, religion and customs, made the relationship with the other on" I-Thou" ratio.

This article aims at understanding ordinary Tehran residents’ attitudes towards Death and Dying and recognizes the relationship between Death and Religion in their thoughts. Using Grounded Theory as method and semi structured interview as a technique, we reached to nine different Cultural scripts of death and dying among interviewees, including: fatalistic death, resurrection-oriented death, martyrdom-oriented death, mystical death, secular death, aesthetic/nihilistic death, agnostic death, and ambiguity-oriented death. Furthermore, we recognized religious and non-religious cultural scripts besides the rationalization and individualization of religion among them. According to our findings, there is no accordance between some interviewees’ thoughts and beliefs with their behavior and lifestyle so that one cannot guess people’s attitudes towards death and dying from their behavior or their appearance. In other words, we face no structural Homology between their ideas and their lifestyle. Moreover, most interviewees had mixed ideas and beliefs about death and dying, and it can indicate the social and cultural complexity of Tehran society.
